Other projects

I sometimes get involved in other research projects. Most recently and most notably I have been involved in projects looking at older people's use of digital technology including working on the multi-national interdisciplinary project, Technology in Later Life (TiLL). I have written about the need for older people to be more involved in technology design and how we should take a more people-centred socio-technical perspective to understanding how technology might enable or hinder older people's lives.
I have also been involved in a project mapping Behaviour Change across the University as part of the HEAT@UWE programme (funded by EPSRC). I have also recently been involved with the  Suburban Neighbourhoods Adaptation to Climate Change (SNACC) research project (funded by the EPSRC).
In my previous employment, at Warsash Maritime Centre (part of Southampton Institute) I have carried out research applying social psychology to merchant seafaring operations, including a longitudinal study of recruitment, selection and retention of merchant seafarers and an in-depth account of simulation as a method of training for seafarers, specifically around changing behaviour during escalating emergencies.
At Bournemouth University, I have also carried out work addressing professional’s attitudes towards mental health in primary care and prison settings (Musselwhite and Freshwater, 2006) including devising and running mental health awareness training for prison staff, involving a project using reflective learning to change prison staff attitudes and behaviour with respect to mental health (Musselwhite et al., 2005), where I was also involved in devising an award winning training video. I have also carried out research into collaborations and partnerships between organisations and higher education in the new knowledge exchange era (Musselwhite and Vincent, 2005)
